It was really really nice out at the ORV park field this afternoon. Just a
little lonesome.
Got there about 2:30, flew until 5:45. Burned 3/4 gal. of fuel on 6 long
flights. The winds were about 7 when I got there, but by 3pm they must have
been averaging 3-4, with an occasional gust to maybe 7. Sky, although
overcast, wasn't hard to see against. Linda says I am red, so must have
been some ultraviolets seeping through.
Had a few kids come by and chat, and a guy that said he was a modeler new to
the area and was checking out possible places to fly. He really liked the
grass. It was freshly mowed (thanks to whoever mowed)and is really getting
green. I didn't get his name-- I was having too much fun flying and he was
gone when I got back down.
No other flyers!!! You were really missing out. Anyone fly in the
morning??
Also, virtually no motorcycles in the ORV park. The go-carts were busy, and
there were a few motorcycles in the far east end, but nobody up at our west
end. A guy in a pickup with a sign on the side that looked like the new
moto-cross track operators drove by, waved, but didn't stop.
The Focus runs again, after about a year being down. Last year, about this
time, I started having engine troubles. Bearings were feeling a bit rough.
Swapped to the spare which had new bearings in it. Had all kinds of
consistent running problems, dead-sticks and such. Fussed with pump
pressure, pipe length and mixture all spring, but could not get it reliable
enough to fly.
Finally decided to re-bearing the original engine. When I pulled it apart
to change the bearings, found a broken ring that scored big grooves in the
cylinder sleeve. New piston, ring, liner, connecting rod (it was cheap) and
bearing (they were shot) and it runs like a dream. Not even a stutter in 6
flights.
Now if I could just remember how to fly.
Anyone seen the weather for tomorrow?
