[Talkrc] Sage Advice

Yo Dennis,

Central Hobbies carries only Gator brand, that's when I learned that Gator had stopped production due to Katrina. Vern, at Central hobbies suggested Radio South. They have both Gator and PBG. Radio South, just like Central Hobbies is out of Gator wing tubes. They have PBG but the problem is sizes. Either the diameter is ok but the length is only 12 inches. The longer lengths of PBG have diameters that are too big. Sight. The Sig setup may work, the length is about 1-1/2 shorter than I would like. TNT Landing Products has the right size wing tube, but not the sockets. know of any source of the sockets/phenolic tubes? Maybe some duct tape would work!

BTW, has Linda stopped trying to keep you in line?

  ElRicko,

You may consider a carbon fiber tube. Stronger than aluminum and much lighter. They are available in most sizes all the way down to ½". Try Central Hobbies and the common brand of tube is PBG.

Central can be found at centralhobbies.com, or you can do a Google for PBG wing tubes.

  Carlos,

I checked out the Sig blade mount. Looks good, only it's for 1/3 scale planes. A little too big. I'm leaning toward a wing tube setup. I found out that there are tubes under 1 inch in diameter. I had always seen 1-1/4 plus tubes and didn't realize that there were smaller diameters available. Now the only problem is that the main manufacture, Gator, had a slight wind problem. Katrina hit the factory and who knows when it will, if ever, be up and running. I found a Sig wing tube setup that just might work.

The 4*40 is some airplane! Bruce sure designed a winner when he worked for Sig. now how are you going to tell old Santa that an OS Surpass or Saito would just fit under the tree?

  Hi Rick,

It has been awhile since Ive got "My Hooves Wet". I still have my Four Star 40 with floats but the engine is tired. Lately my ultralights have been taking up my time.

Perhaps Santa Claus will see it in his heart to place a new four stroke engine under my tree. I also have a 80" PBY Ive yet to finish. Maybe I'll get my butt in gear and get it ready to go as well.

So you didnt mention what your solution to the wing problem you might try. Curious minds would like to know?

  Best Regards

  Carlos Grageda

  Has it warmed-up yet?

Thanks Ron-the-Rat and Carlos for your help. Sorry for the delayed response, but the rain affected my ISP.

Carlos, you brought a tear to my eyes when you said the magic phrase, Water Buffalos! Boy, do I ever miss flying off the river. And Rob, I see you are selling some planes. Going hi-tech with a turbine copter?

  Thanks guys
